A Heart Like His (Solo) || PDF Sheet Music

Description

PDF Sheet Music. Soprano/Alto.
A higher and a lower key version are included in the download.

This is something I was asked to write for a stake Relief Society conference in Nova Scotia and is based on the book, “A Heart Like His” by Virginia Pearce. This song is about how the selfless service we render becomes more meaningful as we change our hearts to become like our Savior’s.

The enabling power of the Atonement is activated, and often answers and comfort we we seek, come as we exemplify and follow the Savior in serving others as He would do. This is the miracle He sends to us personally as our hands and hearts become like His.

A Heart Like His

The things I plan seem pressing
Yet when I kneel in prayer
And dedicate my day to Him
My will disappears

For there’s also someone praying
That help will come
May I be their answer?
May I be the one?

Chorus:
As my hands become the Lord’s
I feel his gentle touch.
As my mind thinks on His words
I know I’m given much.
As I act upon each whispering
With purest charity,
My heart becomes like His and I feel peace.

When I’m pulled by worldly things
I will take no heed;

For somebody’s heart is aching
Only I can fill their need.
As I give each day unto the Lord

And humbly serve for Him,
My heart is changed to a heart like His
And love abides within.

I often pray for blessings;
To feel his love inspire.
Yet answers lie within me
That fill my soul’s desire.

As I let my heart be softened
Through Jesus Christ,
My prayer becomes answered
In sweet sacrifice.

Repeat Chorus

Read Story

A Heart Like His was written as a special request by a stake Relief Society in Nova Scotia, Canada and subsequently performed as part of their Stake Relief Society spring social event. It was a beautiful writing experience for me. Their stake had been studying the book “A Heart Like His” by Virigina Pearce (Gordon B. Hinckley’s daughter), about the conversion of our hearts to become more like the Savior’s. The book became the basis of the lyrics, and I loved what I learned while reading it as well. The entire point of the book is that as we serve and love one another in ways that Christ would, He literally moulds and shapes our hearts to become more enlarged. Kind of like the Grinch! Instead of small and shrivelled hearts, we have soft, squishy, large ones. He fills us with His love, and we become more capable to love – more than we ever thought possible – because of Him. Sister Pearce teaches us through an experiment that her own stake relief society presidency tried to test out this theory, and they found beautiful results. It wasn’t about incorporating more on their “to-do” lists, but rather pray to be led to those who needed them that day and then be open to serve when opportunities arose. It wasn’t about baking more casseroles or making more visits, but about conditioning our hearts to be ready for whatever prompting came and to recognize those moments to be orchestrated by the Lord, not only for the benefit of others, but also for ourselves – because through these experiences, we would come to know the Savior better. We would become more like Him. And just as importantly, we would feel of His love for us. And when our hearts are filled with His love, we can’t help but spill that love onto others.

Moroni 7:45-47 (From the Book of Mormon)

45 And acharity suffereth long, and is bkind, and cenvieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily dprovoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

46 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, if ye have not charity, ye are nothing, for charity never faileth. Wherefore, cleave unto charity, which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail—

47 But acharity is the pure blove of Christ, and it endureth cforever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.

48 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, apray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true bfollowers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall cbe like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be dpurified even as he is pure. Amen.
